The Safari Blue is a wonderful experience of boating in Zanzibar aboard a local dhow.

Departing from the beautiful beach of Fumba on the southwest coast of Zanzibar and beautiful snorkelling will be a highlight of this trip.

The day kicks off with spotting dolphins from the dhow in Fumba waters on the Zanzibar channel between the island Zanzibar and the mainland, making this area almost always calm. It’s a great chance to admire these playful mammals in the tranquil Indian Ocean.

On the next stop of the safari, we suggest you leave your shoes, cell phones, iPods, iPods and all that modern day stuff on the boat so you can sink your feet in to fine sand on this “white sand bank”!Snorkelling here is stunningly beautiful; this area is part of the Menai conservation and largely untouched. Our friendly crew will hand you the snorkelling gear you might need and guide you to the best-kept underwater treasure to see all the colourful fish and in some occasions, even turtles.

If you choose to just relax on the white sand bank, refreshments will be served throughout.

From the sand back, you will then be taken for a swim in a natural pool sitting between old coral rocks and mangrove trees, and NO crocodiles!

For the last part of the safari, the tour will head to the shores of Kwale Island for a seafood buffet lunch that serves scrumptious rock lobster, prawns, and calamari, and octopus, two types of local fish, delicious coconut sauce, coconut rice and local fried flat bread called chapatti. Dessert consists of almost ten different types of exotic fruits and Zanzibar coffee. After lunch, you can soak in the sun and relax before the trip back to Fumba.

Highlights

Safari Blue departs from the fishing village of Fumba exploring from there the sandbanks, islands, lagoons and wonders of the Bay and the Indian Ocean in the comfort of our traditional dhows. On arrival the participants are given a short briefing about the programme for the day and safety on board. The dhows are hand built from African mahogany, finished and maintained to the very highest standards. The most stunning natural creations must be the two pristine sandbanks of soft white sand which rise out of the turquoise blue of the Indian Ocean. We stop at one sandbank in the morning to snorkel over the coral reef and then to relax and swim.
