This Walkbout experience encompasses the southern and eastern parts of Ethiopia. Arriving in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, you will stop for lunch at an Ethiopian Restaurant for your introduction to enjera, the Ethiopian staple food.

The experience also includes a visit to the Ras Tafarian community at Sashemene. You will also drive to the Dorze Mountains to visit the Droze people who are known for building bamboo huts. In the afternoon you will have a boat trip on Lake Chamo to view crocs and hippos...................................

Day 1- Arrive in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. You will visit the Trinity Cathedral, built by Emperor Haile Sillasse (who is also known as Ras Tafari). The church is also the burial place of Haile Sillasse and his family. You will also visit the National and Ethnographic Museums. The most famous collection of this Museum is Lucy, the 3.2 million years old fossil. Stop for lunch at an Ethiopian Restaurant for your introduction to enjera (the Ethiopian staple food). Overnight hotel. The National Museum in Addis Ababa also houses the famous 3.2 million old fossil of Lucy, discovered in 1974 in Ethiop, something you must see.

Day 2-In the morning drive to Arba Minch with stops at places like the 12th century graveyard of Tiya. Overnight hotel.

Day 3- Drive to the Dorze Mountains to visit the Droze people who are known for building bamboo huts. You will test enset (false banana), the staple food of the Dorze. In the afternoon you will have a boat trip on Lake Chamo to view crocs and hippos. Overnight hotel.

Day 4-Drive to Hawassa across the land of the Welyta and Sidama people. Overnight hotel.

Day 5-In the morning you will have stop at the fish market on the shore of Lake Hawassa, which is also a great place for birding. Test freshly cooked fish in one of the local lake shore restaurants. Drive to Wondo Genet to enjoy its hot spring baths. Return to Hawassa for overnight.

Day 6- Drive to Shashemene to visit a Ras Tafarian community. Half a century ago the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Sillasse (Ras Tafari) granted land for Rastafarians at Shashemene. Continue to Lake Langano, where you will enjoy swimming. Overnight hotel.

Day 7-Spend the morning in Langano. In the afternoon drive to Adama. Overnight hotel.

Day 8- Drive to Harar, the walled Muslim city in eastern part of Ethiopia. On the way stop at Awash National Park where you will have a chance to see Oryxes. Overnight hotel.

Day 9- Spend the day exploring Harar markets, traditional homes, museums and early in the evening visit the hyena man, to see wild hyena’s being fed from human hand. The old walled city of Harar in eastern Ethiopia is the only place in the world where wild hyenas are fed by humans. Overnight hotel.

Day 10-Drive back to Addis Ababa. You will have farewell dinner with entertainment at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant. Overnight hotel.

Day 11- Day of Departure.
